Every end-time scenario has its problems. By problem I mean that there are difficulties in interpreting the text. Certain key passages leave room for various diverse interpretations. It is really these uncertainties which have resulted in so many conflicting end-time viewpoints.
The main problems with the common end-time scenarios:
- The kingdom promised by God to Israel is considered a conditional promise and the promises are applied to the church (postmillennialism and amillennialism). Yet in passage after passage of the Bible it seems that God will honor these promises by establishing the nation of Israel as a kingdom on the earth -- read more.
- The passages concerning the kingdom are interpreted allegorically (amillennialism). (But the New Testament writers interpreted many Old Testament passages in this way -- read more).
- There is an odd blending of mortal humans with resurrected saints in the millennium (premillennialism).
- In premillennialism the purpose of Christ's second coming must include establishing a kingdom on earth. However, the passages in the Bible concerning the second coming of Christ indicate that the purpose for Christ's second coming is to judge the world. This judgment occurs at the white throne judgment.
- There are problems with all possible rapture scenarios (premillennialism).
- In the millennium, humans would have a lifespan of centuries and the animals would behave very differently (premillennialism).
- Ezekiel 40 - 48 is not really considered by any scenario.
